Born in Krefeld in 1957, lives and works in Spain and Switzerland. He studied at the Hamburg University of Fine arts under Sigmar Polke between 1974 and 1981. Since 1978, he has appeared in numerous exhibitions, such as at the Musée d’art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (2009), Tate Modern in London (2009), the Kunsthaus Graz (2009), White columns in new York (2009), Tbilisi 4 (2008), the Vienna MuMoK (2008), the Lucerne Kunstmuseum (2008), the hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin (2007), the Gagosian Gallery in new York (2007), the Whitechapel Gallery in Lndon (2006), the Galerie Mezzanin in Vienna (2006), Luhring Augustine in Wew York (2006), the Museum of contemporary art north Miami (2005), the Museum für Gegenwartskunst in Basel (2005), the secession in Vienna (2004), the Institute of contemporary arts in London (2004), the Biennale de Lyon (2003), the art & Public in Geneva (2001), and the Basel Kunsthalle (1999). Represented in renowned public collections, including the Frankfurt Museum für Moderne Kunst, the hamburg Kunsthalle, the New York MoMa, and the Saatchi Gallery in london.

    Lawrence Weiner was born 10 February 1942 Bronx New York; Attended the New York Public School System. The late fifties and early sixties were spent travelling throughout North America (USA, Mexico, and Canada). The first presentation of the work was Mill Valley California in1960. Lawrence Weiner divides his time between his studio in New York City and his boat in Amsterdam. He participates in public and private projects and exhibitions, in both the new and old world, maintaining that ART IS THE EMPIRICAL FACT OF THE RELATIONSHIPS OF OBJECTS TO OBJECTS IN RELATION TO HUMAN BEINGS & NOT DEPENDANT UPON HISTORICAL PRECEDENT FOR EITHER USE OR LEGITIMACY.
