Born in Pinneberg, Germany in 1954; lives and works in cologne studied at the Kassel art academy/Department of Fine arts under harry Kramer (1980–86) and at the california institute of the arts in los angeles (1988/89). held a teaching position at the california state university long Beach, los angeles, in 1999 and between 2000 and 2006 taught at the academy of Media arts in cologne. his most important exhibitions include Hundred Stories about Love (2009) at the 21st century Museum of contemporary art in Kanazawa, Transparency (2009) in Prague, Now Jump (2008) at the nam June Paik art center in Korea, Süßer Schlummer – Der Schlaf in der Kunst [Sweet Slumber – Sleep in the Arts] (2006) at the Residenzgalerie in salzburg, Back to Kassel (2004) at the Kassel Kunstverein, Flaming Brushes (2003) at the Kunsthal Rotterdam, and Neue Photographie [New Photography] (1998) at the Bayerische staatsgemäldesammlungen in Munich.
