Born in Warsaw in 1957, lives and works in Warsaw ewa Gorządek is an art historian, art critic, and author. She is curator at the Centre for Contemporary art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw. Gorządek has curated many exhibitions of works by contemporary artists, including Steven Pippin, oleg Kulik, adam adach, agnieszka Kalinowska, Zbigniew Rogalski, and the aeS Group. She was also responsible for Really, the Young Are Realists, an exhibition of works by Polish artists (in collaboration with S. Szabłowski), the Polish-Russian show Behind the Red Horizon, as well as Polish Woman: Medium – Shadow – Image (in collaboration with a. Zawadowska) and Concrete Legacy (in collaboration with S. Szabłowski).

Curated by_Ewa Gorządek Wojciech Bąkowski Anna Baumgart Dorota Buczkowska Norman Leto 13. 05. – 18.06.2011 Das Zitat aus dem Gedicht von Wojciech Bąkowski, das der Ausstellung den Titel gibt, bildet einen gemeinsamen Bedeutungsraum für die ausgewählten Werke von vier polnischen KünstlerInnen, deren Arbeiten zwischen extremen menschlichen Gefühlen wie Angst oder Liebe oszillieren. Stellt man diese Werke einander gegenüber, entsteht ein mit Spannung durchsetzter Ausstellungsraum, der die BesucherInnen zu empfindlichen Instrumenten werden lässt, die zum Teil tief bewegende dramatische Assoziations- und Bedeutungsströme empfangen. Beunruhigende Musik und Bilder aus dem Videoclip der Gruppe „Niwea“ (Bąkowski´s Band) werden mit den Skulpturen von Anna Baumgart, die Medienikonen des Grauens darstellen, konfrontiert. Die Künstlerin hat anhand von Pressebildern dreidimensionale Figuren nachgeformt und evoziert damit die komplexe Natur der Ereignisse, in die ihre Protagonistinnen verwickelt waren, deren Kontext aber im Prozess der medialen Wahrnehmung meistens verlorengegangen war. Die minimalistischen Objekte von Wojciech Bąkowski generieren einen scheinbar subtilen, transformierten Sound, der ursprünglich extreme Situationen begleitet und mit den dezenten Zeichnungen von Dorota Buczkowska im Dialog steht. Ihre Kunst bezieht sich auf die ambivalente Natur der Liebe als zugleich sinnliche und physiologische Erfahrung. In diesem Kontext wird die analytische und auf der formalen Ebene distanzierte Arbeit von Norman Leto zum ironischen Kontrapunkt im Nachdenken über die Natur des Menschen, die so stark von Emotionen angetrieben wird. Die Arbeit, die aus einem Ausschnitt seines Spielfilms Sailor besteht, stellt einen bebilderten Vortrag mit soziologischer, philosophischer und anthropologischer Ausssage dar. Text: Ewa Gorządek This quotation from Wojciech Bąkowski poem that lends the exhibition its title conjoins works chosen from four Polish artists, which oscillate around extreme human emotions like fear or love. They each fill the exhibition space with cumulative tensions and induce the spectator to become a sensitive instrument that receives waves of different associations and meanings, sometimes in a deeply dramatic way. Uneasy music and pictures in the video clip by Niwea (Bąkowski´s band) are confronted with Anna Baumgart’s horror-filled sculptures. The artist has recreated three dimensional figures from press images, evoking in this way the complex nature of the events in which her heroines were entangled as well as the related contexts, most of which were lost in the process of media perception. The minimal objects created by Bąkowski generate transformed sounds that seem very subtle and accompany originally extreme situations. They correspond with the discrete drawings by Dorota Buczkowska, whose works relate to the ambivalent nature of love, a feeling which is sensual and physiological at the same time. In this context, Norman Leto’s work, analytical and cold at the formal level, becomes an ironic counterpoint for thinking about human nature, strongly powered by emotions. Presented as a fragment of his feature-length movie titled Sailor, the work is constructed in the form of an illustrated lecture of sociological, philosophical, and anthropological character.
